Rep. Van Werven’s video on SB 5579, shipping Bakken crude and jobs out of state
Rep. Luanne Van Werven discusses Senate Bill 5579, relating to the volatility of Bakken crude oil received in Washington state by rail.
Van Werven points out the legislation will not keep Bakken crude oil from coming into Washington state, but it will send jobs out of state. The crude will still come into state by rail, but will be shipped to Oregon or Vancouver, British Columbia to be unloaded. It will have a devastating impact on Whatcom County communities.
